I came across this article on
Slate about designer denim. What makes women pay $200+ for something you can buy for $50 or less? What's ironic is jeans aren't made out of any super expensive, hard to find material and nor are they hard to make. Just like anything else, you want the best and what makes you look the best. Or at least makes you feel that good. Designer denim is somewhat of a status symbol. Only those who know the brands can glance at a back pocket and know who makes them. There are so many brands that it's becoming harder to keep up
The article mentions that the designer denim trend has peaked. I think jeans have become the new "black pants" but only better.
Your favorite pair of jeans not only makes you look good but they are also comfortable and you can wear them almost anywhere. Every trendy new club or restaurant you set foot in you will see most young women wearing them. Comfort and looking great don't always go together when it comes to women's clothing so that's another bonus for jeans. I can't imagine designer denim going out of style but then again at some point everything does. I definitely thing this trend will stick around longer that most.
