The Future of Fashion

In roughly 48 hours we will celebrate and welcome the new year. This time of year always makes me look around and think about what the future holds. I'm wondering where is fashion headed?? I fear that one day we will all dress the same, like they do on Star Trek or the Jetsons. It seems that the people in all the futurist movies and TV shows dress this way. Is it just lack of creativity on the producers part or are we really headed in that direction?
There is a number of reasons why I could see this happening. Maybe fashion/how people dress will become regulated forcing everyone to wear similar outfits (I could go on and on about this one). Or will people just become tired of keeping up as trends come ago faster each year? Or maybe we will one day live on another planet and we have to wear specialy clothing to protect our body. I guess we'll have to wait and find out. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this doesn't happen...at least in my lifetime.

Wishing you the best in 2006...
Liv

Wrap Yourself Up

I found this great wrap on sale at shopbob.com. I wanted something basic to go with this wool black dress I got for Christmas. Adding a wrap is a great way to complete the most basic outfit.

Festive Treats

One of our favorite new holiday treats are these Chocolate Holiday Pretzels. The best thing about them is they are so quick and easy. All you really have to do is pop them in the oven. And who doesn't love the chocolate/pretzel combo? I've definitely ate my share this holiday season! For other holidays you could use different color M&Ms.

Here's what you need: Checkerboard-shaped Pretzels, Plain M&Ms and Hershey's Kiss and/or Hugs.
Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees. Put a Kiss or Hug on top of each pretzel. Bake them for roughly 5 minutes. As soon you take them out of the oven put a M&M on top of the Hug or Kiss. Then put them in the refrigerate for 10 minutes to set.

Club Monaco

Club Monaco has great stuff. Here is a couple of outfits. One is more casual and geared for the weekend. The other is dressier - it would even be fitting for a party or dinner.

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays for whatever you may celebrate. Hopefully you will spend quality time with friends and family and eat lots of holiday treats. Wishing you the best in 2006...xo, Liv.

Cranberry Twinkle Toes

I just raided The Body Shop. They had a lot of good sales so of course I proceeded to buy more gifts. One thing I picked up was a couple pairs of these cranberry-scented heatable booties. You can heat them up in the microwave and they release the cranberry-scent. It's very soothing and relaxing. Don't worry they are washable too.

Last Minute Gifts

If you are like me, you still haven't finished your holiday shopping and probably will be running around up till the last minute. Here's a great, easy gift from Sephora for a friend, sister or even for mom. It has all the great Bliss products like body butter and body scrub that women of all ages love.

A/X Flirty Top

I found this flirty "going out" top at Armani Exchange. Perfect with jeans. It also comes in a tan color.

Things that make you go hmm...

How do you feel about stirrup pants? Are they coming back? It looks like Urban Outfitters thinks they are. I'm having a Flashdance flash-back.

Warm & Fuzzy

With all this cold weather, I was thinking what can you wear over your holiday outfit or dress that's warm but still cute?! I came across this adorable faux fur coat cape from Banana Republic. It's classy and won't over-whelm your cute holiday dress. It's the perfect piece to complete an outfit.

Meiji

Last night we visited Meiji a fairly new sushi restaurant in Chicago. Overall the food was pretty good but the service wasn't so great. We waited almost 45 minute for our table when they kept telling us it would be just "5 more minutes." The atmosphere was pretty typical for japanese restaurant - minimalistic with a zen-like feel to it. They didn't have any of the smaller typical rolls like spicy tuna. We sampled quite a few of the rolls and they were pretty tasty but I'm not sure if we'll be going back.

Stress-Free Gift Giving

I know what you are thinking...is there such a thing? The holidays without the gift giving stress? Philosophy's Gingerbread Man foaming bubble bath/shower gel does exactly that - it's a great gift AND it helps sooth your tired body therefore relieving stress! Did I mention how great it makes your bath/shower smell? It's even a great gift for yourself. Of course you can't open it till you are done with your holiday shopping.

Liv Got New Jeans...Amongst Other Things

One of my purchases in NYC was a great new pair of jeans by Chip and Pepper. I got them at the Chip and Pepper store on Mulberry - I believe this is in the area called "NoLita." NoLita is the area east of Soho in case you are wondering. It's bordered on the north by Houston Street, by Bowry on the east and by Broome to the south. Such a cute but funky little area. I wandered through many boutiques and made multiple stops for hot drinks since it was all of 14 degrees outside. Doesn't make for the best shopping weather but like it's going to stop me from shopping in New York!

Anthropology

Anthropology has some cute clothes that would be perfect as gifts or treats for yourself. Here's a couple items I really liked and thought would be great additions to this year's wardrobe. These are great pieces that could be mixed and matched with clothes you already own.

Wrap Me Up

I love wrap dresses. Especially for work. Here's two by Diane Von Furstenburg. You can find these on NET-A-PORTER.COM.

As Seen On...

Okay, I'm not typically one to buy something because I saw a celebrity wearing but if I see something I love I will go to great lengths to find out wear to buy it. That includes asking strangers on the street. People are always so flattered when you come up to them and say you love their ____, where did they buy it?! Most don't have time think of a lie and they are just excited some random thought they looked stylish. But if you are looking for clothes that a celeb wore (because you like the celebrity or just like their clothes) there is this great site called ASOS.com. It stands for "As Seen On Screen." I love this mini skirt! This is just one of the many cute items they carry.

By the way, in case you were wondering it was worn by Victoria Beckham.

Holiday Shoes

Your feet deserve a little holiday treatment too. These Nine West pumps would look great with a dress or with your basic black pants you wear to work.

Forbes.com - Most Expensive Jeans

Forbes.com put together a showcase of the most expensive jeans. I love the Dior pair with leather on the sides. Very creative! I'm so over all the jeans with Swarovski crystals.

NYC here I come!

Tomorrow I'm off to New York City for the weekend! I'll give the full report of what I saw and everything I bought when I get back. Hopefully I will find some great stuff!!
